Evaporator Fan Motor Klixon Trip (Thermal Overload)
An evaporator/case fan motor overheats and its internal Klixon thermal cut-out opens, stopping the fan and warming the case until the motor cools and resets.
Symptoms
- Case or walk-in slowly warms with the coil clear and the circuit still feeding
- Evaporator fan stopped; motor hot to the touch
- Fan restarts on its own after the motor cools, then trips again (cycling)
- Sometimes a faint burnt-insulation smell at the fan motor
